Simon Checkley - Chief Executive Officer

Simon began his career as a mortgage broker’s administrator and then paraplanner in the early 1980s at the then little-known mortgage brokers, John Charcol. He worked there for eighteen years, throughout the company’s early period of impressive growth. On leaving the company, he held the position of Director of Branches, by which time John Charcol had become a household name.

In 1998 Simon identified an opportunity to establish a mortgage brokers which would be dedicated to the needs of private clients referred by professional introducers. His goal was to provide the highest quality, bespoke broking service to clients with complex needs – primarily business people, professionals and entrepreneurs. Private Finance is now a leading mortgage brokerage and has given advice on billions of pounds worth of mortgages.

Simon is married with four children. Away from the office, he likes to support his family’s relationship with his wife’s home country – Spain –  where he enjoys spending time with his wife’s side of the family as well as lots of cycling and walking. Until fairly recently, Simon cycled competitively; nowadays he prefers to focus his energy on endurance challenges and fundraising.

Simon recently instigated Private Finance’s participation in the Yorkshire Pedalthon, a fundraiser where he and the Private Finance team cycled a total of 1,000 miles between them. In 2014 and 2016, he cycled from London to Valencia, raising money for Macmillan Nurses and Mind. Simon also enjoys “trying “ to play guitar.
