According to the Institute of Fiscal Studies, the average graduate debt is now in excess of £40,000, following the increase in maximum annual tuition fees to £9,000. At the same time, repayments on student loan debt are now included in lenders’ affordability tests to decide how much money to advance to mortgage borrowers.
